A 19th century Laotian seeded votive Buddha. Made from teak-wood. This Buddha has very common Laotian characteristics. A long sensuous line, very interesting figures and seated in a leg over leg style.
The propagation of the Buddha image was used to gain merit in the Buddhist community. Individuals would take votive Buddhas to be blessed or prayed upon by monks for various reasons, and the figure would sit in the temple for a lengthy period of time.
