29” tall x 19” wide x 18” deep.  Dark wood, hand carved.

This birthing chair is a device shaped to assist a woman in the physiological upright posture during childbirths. It is intended to provide balance and support. It’s three legs support the bottom of the women in labor and has a slender, sloped back for comfort and to allow assistants positioned behind the mother in labor, to massage or support her. The arms of the chair have hand holds for the mother to grip, providing extra leverage. Birthing chairs are low to the ground specifically to allow laboring women to brace their feet against the ground to help in pushing.
