This fetish statue was made from the Ewe people from the coastal regions of West Africa. The unique abstract figure shaped by the gourd and string wrapped around the sticks evoke a mystic imagery. It was painted in white with blue and red undertones. The fetish statue is believed to have supernatural powers.

The traditional Ewe religion is Vodun or Voodoo. In Vodun the fetish is an object of a statue that are sold for their healing and spiritually rejuvenating properties. They are objects inhabited by spirits. The entities that inhabit a fetish are able to perform different tasks according to their stage of development. Fetish objects are often combined together in the construction of "shrines," used to call forth specific vodun and their associated powers
